South Beach Deco: Step by Step
As Unique As The Deco Destination Itself
Author Iris Garnett Chase and photographer Susan Russell have married words and pictures into this information-packed reference guide to help you define, understand and fully appreciate the unique wonders of South Beach, Florida.
South Beach Deco: Step by Step is a cleverly-written and descriptive book with stunning photography, making each page a feast for the eyes and a pleasure to read. It is both fun to read and informative at the same time, with an excellent balance of information and the right amount of history and photos to keep it interesting without being overwhelming.
Chase, a jewelry designer who is also director of retail operations for the Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL) and “resident artist” at MDPL’s Art Deco Welcome Center on Ocean Drive, really knows her town from the inside out.
Russell, an award-winning photographer who has worked in South Florida since 1975, has had her pictures appear in major publications including The Boston Globe, the New York Times Magazine, and the Chicago Tribune. Her assignments have taken her to diverse places including the Vietnam War, the Arctic Circle, Puerto Rico and Berlin.
Chase’s humor, combined with insightful "insider" information, and Russell’s nearly 200 vibrant photographs, make this book an ideal gift or your own reward for a journey filled with the romance and color of tropical Art Deco.
South Beach Deco: Step by Step is not just another pretty coffee table book, but rather a step-by-step guide to a unique architectural and cultural wonder. Published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd., the book is available at the Art Deco Welcome Center on South Beach, through the MDPL web site, www.mdpl.org/books.html, or through online booksellers.
